Our Crazy Summer (Part One)

The month of May ended with many activities. Katherine finished Kindergarten at Swink School and had her first dance recital. All of us ended the month at our church's one day vacation bible school where we had fun learning what Jesus has done for us through bible stories, skits, music, crafts, and some fun games as well.

Our family continued keeping busy the first week of June getting ready for the Southern Baptist Convention and our family vacation to follow. On Thursday, June 5th, Wes, Katherine, Sebastian, and I began our two week vacation. We drove to Little Rock, Arkansas, where we stayed the night at my sister's apartment and took her out to dinner for her birthday. On Friday, after eating breakfast at Krispy Kreme dougnuts and dropping a dozen doughnuts off for my sister to share at work, we began our drive to Franklin, Tenneesse.

On our way to Franklin we made a few stops. We stopped in Memphis and visited Mud Island before having lunch at Corky's. We drove through the campus of Union University to view the progress of rebuilding from tornado damage several months before.

We spent the night in Franklin, Tennessee at the home of Dan & Sara Posthuma (Wes' aunt and uncle). We enjoyed an evening out with Dan and Sara at a small cafe' in downtown Franklin. The next morning we once again began our day's drive with a visit to Krispy Kreme.
Our destination on Saturday was Indianapolis, Indiana. We did finally arrive late that night after stopping to see some friends in Kentucky; eating dinner at The Brown County Inn; being rerouted because of flooding; and enduring a whole set of events from having our van's transmission go out. The highlight for the kids that day was the taxi ride we took from the Walmart parking lot, where our van sat, to the airport to get a rental car. We were rather exhausted by the time we made it to our hotel.

On Sunday morning instead of attending church with some friends we were busy making arrangements for our van to be towed to a repair shop.

Finally we were back on track with our plans. Katherine and Sebastian were very excited to met their Papa Verne Kenney for lunch. After lunch Wes and I said goodbye to Katherine, Sebastian, and Wes' dad, and they drove off for Grand Rapids, Michigan. Wes and I then checked into our hotel for the Southern Baptist Convention.

Cousins

Last week Jaime Brown, Wes' sister, and her kids, Maya and Seth, were in our area to visit family. We were able to spend some time visiting with them, and we all had a good time. The kids loved spending time playing with their cousins.

On Saturday Wes and I took all four kids to have their picture taken. The kids were great, especially since we had to wait two hours before finally getting the pictures taken. (We didn't have an appointment we were walk-ins.) I was very proud of how patient they were, and the end result was worth the wait!

Camping Retreat

The kids were treated to a special overnight trip with some friends on Friday, April 11th. (I was attending the BGCO Ladies Retreat at Falls Creek in Davis, OK, while Wes was umpiring several baseball games.) The kids went camping, but not the way I remember going camping! They went camping in style...in an RV! They had a great time and were worn out when they came home around bedtime Saturday night.

Crazy Saturday

Last Saturday began with getting us all ready and out the door for Katherine's 9am soccer game. It was extra hectic, because I was also making sure I had all of Katherine's dance performance items for her afternoon dance performance at the Idabel Dogwood Days Festival.

After the soccer game I took Katherine over to Lee & Cindy Mayes' house to get her ready for the dance performance at Dogwood Days. (Lee & Cindy are member's of our church and live in Idabel.) Katherine was very excited, because I was allowing her to wear make-up with her dance wear! This was a VERY big deal to her. She also had to have her hair curled and in a pony tail for the performance. She didn't much care for the sitting still while I curled her hair; however, she liked it when it was finished.

It was off to downtown Idabel, where we would meet up with the rest of the dance group and where I discover I left one of the tap shoe ties at the Mayes' home. Cindy found the tap shoe tie and brought it to us. Katherine and I were so grateful!

Did I mention I had Sebastian with me all this time as well, and Wes had to go back to Valliant for the afternoon? God blessed me by providing more help...Cyndi Frunk brought Raeli and Ryan to watch Katherine perform and enjoy the festival activities. Oh what a blessing! She helped me with Sebastian, and I was so very thankful that I treated her and the kids to pizza at Pizza Hut afterward.

By now you are probably thinking my day should be about over, but that was not the case. The kids and I hung out with Raeli, Cyndi, and Ryan at their house before attending a birthday skating party for one of Katherine's team mates that evening. The three of us finally made it back to our house about 8:30pm.

What a day!

I apologize for not taking digital pictures during the dance performance, but Katherine asked me to video instead. I didn't have the extra hands to video and take digital pictures. Too bad I don't have a camera that does both! :-(

Soccer game pictures

Our family is enjoying a busy spring schedule. Katherine has finished four weeks of soccer and seems to be having a good time.

A Good Day

Today Sebastian is having a blast with his friend, Ryan. The boys played all morning; enjoyed a morning a snack; played some more; had lunch; played again; and finally I asked them to take a nap. I pulled out the trundle bed, and Sebastian gave Ryan one of his monkeys to sleep with. I sat between them and rubbed their backs until Ryan fell asleep. They were so cute that I couldn't help but take their picture. (Sebastian wasn't actually asleep yet, but he did finally go to sleep.)

Katherine arrived home after school, and she and Ryan enjoyed a snack (Scooby Doo gummies) while Sebastian finished his nap.

All of us will venture out for mine and Katherine's hair appointment a little later.

Update: The hair appointment went very well. All the kiddo's did great. I was very proud of how well the boys were especially since we were there 45 minutes. (Most of the time was spent waiting since it only took about 10-15 minutes for both of us to have our hair cut.) On the way home I stopped at the store, so the kids could get a kool-aide and bag of M&M's since they behaved so well. They enjoyed the drink and candy and then spent time playing outside. It was a good day!

Lunch at Swink

This picture was taken last week when Sebastian and I went to have lunch with Katherine at her school. The menu that day was roast beef, carrots, potatoes, rolls, and strawberries with cake and whip cream. And yes, it was delicious!
