BBC Children's Camp

In June, Katherine was off to children's camp with our church, BBC.  The theme for camp was Fear Less and Psalm 56:3 was the scripture reference.  Dr. Jason Lee, former professor at SWBTS, current dean for the Cedarville University School of Biblical & Ministry Studies, & former member of BBC, was the camp pastor.  Jarryd Foreman was the camp worship leader.

Loaded & almost ready to pull out
The group pulled out Monday morning, June 24th, and returned Thursday afternoon, June 27th.
I was thankful she had the opportunity to attend camp and thankful to have her back home on Thursday.

Katherine's Volleyball Adventure

Katherine decided this summer she would learn how to play volleyball.  She signed up for the 10 & under girls volleyball program through the Fort Worth Recreation Center.  She was able to be on a team with a couple friends from church.  She had two practices & one game each week for six weeks, and she had a great time learning a new sport.

Royal Ambassadors (RA's)

Sebastian is involved with Royal Ambassadors at our church.  RA's is a missions discipleship for boys grades 1-6.
This year the boys built sail boats.  At the end of year they had the opportunity to race them.
Sebastian also attended a RA camp out, where he went fishing for the first time.  He caught eight fish!

Dr Pepper Museum

In May we made a trip to the Dr Pepper Museum in Waco, Texas.  While there, we learned that Dr Pepper was created by Dr. Charles Alderton, a pharmacist, who worked in Morrison's Old Corner Drugstore in 1885.
In the Old Corner Drugstore Dr Pepper was originally called a "waco." Alderton's customers would ask him to shoot them a "waco."
The owner of the drugstore changes the name to "Dr. Pepper."  The period is dropped in the 1950's.
Dr Pepper became so popular at the Old Corner Drugstore it became hard to keep up with demand.  In 1891, Artesian Manufacturing & Bottling Company was formed and later becomes Dr Pepper Company.
Dr Pepper is introduced in 1904 at the World's Fair in St. Louis.
W.W. "Foots" Clements began as a delivery truck driver and worked his way up to became president, CEO, and chairman of the board.
During his delivery days he discovered that right handed customers opened coolers with their left hand and would grab a drink on the cooler's right side, so that's where he began placing the Dr Pepper.
The Dr Pepper Museum was founded in 1988.  It is housed in the 1906 Artesian Manufacturing & Bottling Company building.
Wes, Katherine, Sebastian, and I enjoyed touring the museum, learning about the history of Dr Pepper and free enterprise, as well as other Waco history.

Oh, and getting a free sample of Dr Pepper wasn't bad either!

Children's Bible Drill

Katherine participated in Children's Bible Drill this year at our church.

(Children's Bible Drill helps children in Grades 4-6 increase in their knowledge of the Bible and in learning how to apply the Bible to their lives. Children's Bible Drill is made up of three cycles of verses and key passages that rotate over a three-year period. At the end of three years in Children's Bible Drill, children will have memorized the books of the Bible and 75 Bible verses. Children will be able to locate Bible books, verses, and 30 Key Passages.  * Taken from FBC, Euless /Bible Drill)

She was required to memorize the books of the Bible, 25 Bible verses, and 10 key passages.  In March, she competed in our church's competition and was required to score at least 12 out of 24 points to qualify for associational competition, which she did.  At associational competition she was required to score at least 17 out of 24 to qualify for state, and she scored 20!  At state she once again did great and received an Excellent Rating for scoring 21 out of 24 points.  Wes and I are so proud of her and all her scriptural memorization.

Katherine's Ballet Recital

Katherine takes ballet at Debbie Dena's School of Ballet.  Mrs. Dena is a wonderful Christian lady, who loves and prays for her students.  Mrs. Dena and her assistants are teaching their students so much more than ballet, and it is a real blessing for her students & their parents.  One of my favorite sights is seeing the girls gather at the end of class to pray.

Here is a 3 minute slideshow from the recital...

Wow, It's August Already!

I haven't been very good at blogging the last couple years and this year especially.  No excuses, just busy with life.

The kids have kept me busy with hockey & volleyball practices/games, bible drill competition, ballet lessons & recital, vacation bible school, camp, children's choir, and other activities.

I've changed our school calendar to January through November taking Thanksgiving through New Year's off.  We also take a few two to three week breaks throughout the year.  We are finding this works so much better for us.

I am looking forward to posting pictures and possibly video of some of our activities.

Stay tuned!

Sebastian's Big Day

Relocation

Guess what?  We moved!

After living in Hurst for 17 months, we found a wonderful house in Crowley that is twice the size of the duplex in Hurst and, adjusted for storage fees, rents for $9 less.  It seemed like a no brainer to us.

Please leave a comment if you need our new address.
